raw dog food

If you’re considering feeding your pup freeze-dried dog food, you may be wondering if there is anything special that needs to be done in order to prepare it. One of the most common questions asked by pet owners about freeze-dried diets is whether additional hot water needs to be added before serving.

The simple answer is that it depends on the type of freeze-dried food you are feeding. Some brands require that water be added and rehydrated before serving, while others may not need additional water.

To make sure that your pup is getting enough moisture from their meal, it’s important to read the instructions on the package carefully before preparing their food.

At Lecker Bites, all of our smaller items such as fish cubes and Beef herb bites do not require additional water for preparation. However, for our larger items such as our complete meal patties, we recommend that you add warm water to rehydrate the food before feeding. This will help to bring out flavours and aromas that pets love and make the food easier to chew and digest.

Of course, for our delicious chews, no water is required at all.

How much water do you add to freeze-dried food?

We recommend adding the same amount of warm water as the weight of the freeze-dried food. For example, if you are adding 100g of freeze-dried dog food to your pup’s meal, add 100 ml of warm water (better than cold water) too. The food should be left for 5-10 minutes before serving to allow it to fully rehydrate.

Is Freeze-dried pet foods the same as dehydrated pet foods?

No, freeze-dried pet foods and dehydrated pet foods are not the same thing. Freeze-drying is a process that removes moisture from food without using heat, while dehydration uses heat to remove most of the water content. Freeze drying retains more nutritional value and flavour than dehydration since the nutrients aren’t exposed to heat. Freeze-dried foods also tend to have a longer shelf-life than dehydrated foods, making them more convenient for pet owners.

Why freeze-dried dog food?

Freeze-dried dog foods are becoming increasingly popular among pet parents due to their convenience, nutritional benefits, and flavours. Freeze-dried foods offer all the same nutrients as fresh food without requiring refrigeration or any special handling. The lack of moisture also makes them a great option for dogs who have sensitive stomachs or allergies since they are easily digestible. Plus, they make a great alternative to traditional kibble and wet food, allowing pet parents to give their pup a variety of different flavours and textures with each meal.
